Market Commons Myrtle Beach SC - The Market Common area of Myrtle Beach SC used to be the old Air Force Base. After the Air Force gave the Airport and surrounding property over to the local government the area was used more for local development.

10 years ago my family would go for walks around the lake within The Market Commons area with little development. My Wife and I went for a walk around the lake this past week and noticed the family friendly changes the area has made since we used to bring our kids. I have been aware of the new homes for sale at Market Common and Condos for sale in Market Common but never really noticed the family friendly changes Market Commons has made.

Savannah's Playground within Market Commons is a big addition to the walking paths that surround Crabtree Gym. Sanvannah Thompson is a local Myrtle Beach woman with disabilities. The Playground is named in her honor and is designed to "promote the development of barrier free, bias free world for all children with special need".

Surfside Beach held an Easter Egg Hunt this year hosted by Champion Autism Network at Surfside Beach Library.  This event was design so young people with Autism could enjoy the traditional Easter Egg Hunt. The Easter Egg Hunt had limited distraction to enhance the experience for people with disabilities.

Dave and Busters is a new addition to Broadway at the Beach. Dave and Busters is located in Broadway at The Beach where the old Hard Rock Pyramid used to be. Dave and Busters restaurant is recognized for it arcades and games. April of 2018 Dave and Busters closed the doors for a personal event for people with Autism. Dave and Busters turned down the sound that typically overwhelms the facility and can also cause hardship for people with Autism. This event was promoted as a sensory friendly event and was called a success with more events in the works.

I hope to see more of these events that help the Myrtle Beach area grown and continue to create a positive family environment.
